Interesting times, and why you may want to vote for me

If you're looking for someone who has both Anatomical Pathology and Infectious Diseases experience, and who can lead Division 5 into the future, then I'm the Candidate you'd want to place a "1" beside. If you're looking for someone who has the community as their central focus, then I'm the Candidate you'd want to place a "1" beside. If you're looking for someone you can trust to bring Division 5 as far forward as possible in the next term (and beyond), and have the Lived Expe rience of our residents be central to our plans for the future, then I'm the Candidate you'd want to place a "1" beside. If you want Division 5 and the Redlands to have a better Disaster Management plan and improve our Disaster Resilience, then I'm the Candidate you'd want to place a "1" beside.

Sunday Driveway Drinks - Covid-19 Socialising at a Safe Distance

Image
As we need to practice good social distancing to keep everyone safe we also need to keep an eye on our mental health. So how about we all head up the driveway for a distantly neighbourly drink on our own driveways and shout hello to our neighbours? Those of us with portable BBQs may also want to cook something up to enjoy ourselves...

David has no Internet at home. He's convinced his girls will be left behind

You should see how many people over here are in that same boat? And Telstra has spent years ignoring our population, NBN still isn't deployed, and we've got mobile phone blackspots in way, way too many places for 2020. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-24/coronavirus-closes-schools-online-learning-no-internet/12082580

Mayor Karen Williams Lies About SEIFA Rankings On SMBI

One thing that I found interesting in the Chamber of Commerce "Meet the Candidates" events on the weekend is when the Mayor said that the SMBI had a SEIFA ranking of 3. This is extremely... well, I was going to say misleading, but I think more "outright lie" is appropriate here. Let me delve into this a little so we can all understand the issue here. The SEIFA Ranking is the Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas as obtained from the latest 2016 Census data. It ranks areas across Australia on their Socio-Economic status in a number of ways. There are a number of ways these areas can be defined, one of which is the Local Government Area (LGA) and another is SA1 (or down to the finest level of detail available). And here's a comment from the SEIFA 2016 Technical Paper: "The primary unit of analysis and the smallest area for which the indexes are available is the Statistical Area Level 1 (SA1). This is the recommended unit of analysis for SEIF...

Redland City 2020 Election Candidate Hilton Travis - Division 5

If you want to see my presentation at the recent Redlands 2030 "Meet the Candidates" Forum on Redland Bay recently, have a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRBodQ5_gAw (And wow, that's a horrible still shot!)  :)

The developer, the whistleblower and the minister

Just a reminder to people about this post from Dec 2018: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-12-09/the-developer-the-whistleblower-and-the-minister-toondah-harbour/10487806

Councillor calls fro City Plan review

Wendy Boglary is absolutely correct here. What's been done with Weinam Creek, what's being proposed with Toondah Harbour, what's happening with Shoreline, what's happening in Alex Hills... Basically, we can summarise the current Redland City Plan as "Create a concrete jungle replacing all our wetlands and wildlife". Nobody I have spoken with is happy with the way our current Council is heading, what they are doing to the Redlands, and what's been done this past 4+ years. We need a change to community-lead representation in Council. And we need that as of March 28th. https://www.redlandcitybulletin.com.au/story/6653940/councillor-calls-for-city-plan-review/

NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) INFORMATION

The Australian Government has some good information available at: https://www.health.gov.au/healt…/novel-coronavirus-20 19-ncov including a number of downloadable resources that will be updated as required. The same goes for the Qld Government: https://www.health.qld.gov.au/…/diseas…/diseases/coronavirus --- A number of people have been raiding their local supermarkets and stockpiling 6 months worth of toilet paper, shampoo, toothpaste, bourbon, tinned beans and various other products. Is this necessary? No. Are we all gonna die? Eventually. Some sooner than others. Disaster Preparedness ================== Now, having said that, it is recommended that, as part of normal disaster preparedness, all Australians have a minimum of 3 days of supplies (food, water, medications, and any additional supplies needed for children, pets or any special requirements, as well as some spare (and charged) batteries for your phone, as well as a charger and cable) however I ge...

Why we need to include our kids in bushfire preparation and trauma recovery

"It can be really helpful to talk to kids about preparedness, include them in bushfire planning, and give them accurate information."  ABC Life --- One thing I intend to do if elected is to improve our Disaster Preparedness right across Div 5, and encourage other Councilors to do this right across the Redlands. https://www.abc.net.au/life/including-kids-in-bushfire-preparation-and-trauma-recovery/1199149 8
