My campaign Facebook Page

My "Hilton Travis 2020" campaign Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/HiltonTravis2020/ .  It contains an updated list of Events I am attending as well as some more general posts.  Any information on my position regarding issues will also be posted to this blog so that those who are not on Facebook have a place they can read this information. I am completely open about who I am and what I stand for - my regular Facebook page is available at https://www.facebook.com/Rav.Hilton.Travis for anyone to read - I have not deleted any posts from my history before (or after) nominating for Div 5 Councillor - everyone needs to see who I am if they are to understand who they are voting for. In addition to this, my personal blog (generally pretty old, but there are a few more recent posts) can be found at https://hiltont.blogspot.com/ . If elected as the Division 5 Councillor, I intend to publish weekly updates on my activities as your Councillor in a location th...

Candidate for Redland City, Division 5, 2020

Image
The Redlands inspires and challenges. I first saw the red colour of its fertile soil some 30 years ago as a young man when my mother, and aunt and uncle, purchased some land on Macleay Island (Alcheringa). Back then there was no real infrastructure on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI). The mainland side of the Redlands, was starting to take off in terms of population, facilities and popularity. Macleay Island became my permanent home in 2015 although I’d worked in the Redlands for decades as an audio visual engineer, outside broadcasting technician and IT professional. I am community and wildlife focused and wish to serve on the Redland City Council as a Division 5 councillor. Division 5 encompasses part of Redland Bay on the bay side of Moogurrapum Creek across to Serpentine Creek Road and down Christopher Street to the waterline and the four Southern Moreton Bay Islands (Macleay, Russell, Karragarra and Lamb). All places I have worked or lived in and/or vi...

Toondah Harbour Development

If you're concerned about the development at Toondah Harbour, I suggest having a read of and signing this E-Petition.  https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/petition-details?id=3271

Fairness and equity across the entire LGA

Council as a whole needs to ensure it is being fair and equitable across the board. Each Councillor needs to not place their own Division above all other Divisions and vote down motions to improve other Divisions, especially where the Motion is bringing the standards in one Division up to being comparative with the other Divisions, but ensure the Local Government Area (LGA) is moving forward as a whole - not leaving some areas to languish, and not promoting some areas over al l others. The whole LGA is what all the Councillors and the Mayor should be working towards. Obviously, the Councillors have additional responsibilities to their particular Division, to ensure the wants, concerns and needs of their residents are listened to and brought to Council, but all Councillors and the Mayor are responsible across the whole LGA. And there needs to be a cohesive plan for the whole LGA.

Car parks or subsidised barges

It has been asked in a number of places and is a relevant question, so I'll answer it here for all to see. The question was around whether the Div 5 Candidates think it is better to improve the car parks at each ferry point, or improve the barges. So, my personal thoughts are that I would like to see extended running times for both the ferries and also the barges, and to have subsidised barge costs for residents (and property owners) for nominated vehicles, which would result in less cars needing to be parked not only on each Island car park, but also at Redland Bay. This would have the added bonus for the Redland Bay residents that not only would they not be inundated by Islanders parking everywhere all the time, but that the development at Moore's Farm and Weinam Creek would not need to be anywhere near as car park focussed. Having said that, as I have made clear everywhere, if I were elected as Div 5 Councillor, it would be my primary focus to ask the resi...

Division 5 Councillor Candidate, Redland City Council, 2020

After having been asked by a number of people whether I'd consider running for the 2020 Local Government elections as a Candidate for Division 5, having a long, hard think about it and discussing it with my partner and a number of friends, I have decided that I will throw my hat in the ring. The deciding factor was asking myself if I thought I would have a better opportunity to help my community more as a Councillor - and I can see a lot of opportunity to improve the lives of those not only living in Division 5, but also across the Redlands. As an active community member who volunteers in a number of areas across the region, I get to speak with a wide range of people about their lived experiences and the disparity between this and the position government seems to have been taking. I will continue to make myself available to meet with people and groups across the region to listen to your input and to keep your lived experiences front and centre when making decis...
